Run Sausage Run Guide

Stop punning and start running.Play as the tasty sausage of your choice. Weisswurst or blutwurst, bacon or chocolate.Run for your life through an endless path as you flex that hot-dog body and avoid getting sliced, chopped, burned or smashed in this adventure run game. Each obstacle functions as a different type of enemy and requires a different approach to make it through without breaking your bacon. For the blade that slices up and down, you can progress slowly and then quickly advance on it to lean back and clear the height when the blade is at the top. For the blade that slices side to side, you’ll need to advance on it quickly to stay bent over low for its entire length. For the tenderizer, dropping gride blade, and fiery grill, you can take your time and walk up to those slowly, let them do their thing and then speed through.

For the double blades which move up and down, you’ll need to advance on them quickly to get low and move through as fast as possible. The windmill blade requires caution and precise timing; do not try to speed through. Carefully move forward, stop to avoid running into the second blade, and then go again.Note that the Up Arrow is not a beneficial power-up. It will trigger “enlarged” which makes you taller, fatter, and slower. Try to avoid it if you can, but it usually floats to a position where it is unavoidable. It often seems to appear directly before the windmill style blades, making it very difficult to fit underneath them; make sure you have a fast running start as soon as you trigger Enlarge. The Protection Bun will offer you invincibility for a short period of time, so if you score one, run as fast as your little bratfeet will carry you.

The game is indeed simple, but it excels here by carefully crafting the critical gameplay components. The game Run Sausage Run! is a side-scrolling endless runner where you must guide a sausage through a series of obstacles. Avoid slicing knives, smashing tenderizers, searing grills, and whirling blades to gather coins, powerups and points. If you are too fast or too slow, too high or too low, your little sausage will meet its very bloody demise.  Movement, graphics, and soundtrack all contribute to an addictive treat of a game that is surprisingly delightful. The default forward action is a slow walk, which you can speed up and then return to as you pass through obstacles, giving you a real feeling of control over your progress. This is also very effective in producing a meaningful sense of inertia as you guide the runner forward. Each little sausage or bacon bends backwards as it runs, contributing to a feeling of weight and forward movement. The Snowflake will trigger “frozen obstacles” which will stop everything from moving. However, beware that even though the blades aren’t moving, they will still kill you if you run into them. The Down Arrow will make you shrink, which makes you a bit faster, shorter and a little bouncier as you lean back into the run position. You can go pretty far, pretty quickly when you’ve shrunk.

Never mind the slow pacing and cautious progression, I actually made it to my highest score of 135 in one quick run just by holding down and not stopping.Carefully move forward, stop to avoid running into the second blade, and then go again.Note that the Up Arrow is not a beneficial power-up. The art style has a retro vibe to it and I coudn’t help but think of those marching concession-stand hot dogs inviting you to “go to the lobby” at the beginning of old movies. Power-ups are fun and charmingly idiosyncratic as you learn how to move optimally while they are active. Consistent progression will unlock funny new outfits which you can purchase using coins you earn through passing obstacles and collecting throughout the level. Unfortunately, the different outfits don’t seem to be anything more than superficial; I really wanted my Ninja sausage to be faster and more agile, but it seemed to have the same skills as the ordinary sausage.

“Run Sausage Run” is a total blast to play, and it’s free, so really no excuse not to give it a try unless you hate fun… or have something against torturing sausages. There is some animated blood/cartoony violence, so they recommend this at age 12 and up. If you’re like us, though…you’re going to have a hard time sharing your phone or tablet, because YOU are going to want to play this all the time instead of the kiddos. They need to get their homework done anyway, right?  As a high-score chaser, the game is indeed simple, but it excels here by carefully crafting the critical gameplay components.
